Blog week ending 20th November
At Wilmington Grammar School for Girls, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive in a safe, respectful, and inspiring environment. That’s why we’re excited to be in the process of finalising our Behaviour for Learning Policy – a fresh, forward-thinking framework designed to support every learner in reaching their full potential.
Rooted in our REACH values, Respect and Resilience, Equality, Achievement, Community, and Honesty and Integrity – this policy isn’t just about rules. It’s about building a culture where kindness, ambition, and personal responsibility are celebrated every day.
Below are some of our key focus and aspects of development that we will share with you prior to January:
- Positive reinforcement at the heart: From verbal praise to reward points and celebration events, we’re committed to recognising students who consistently embody our values and try to think differently about what students would like in terms of rewards.
- Partnership with parents and carers: We know that success is a team effort. Our policy will aim to strengthen the home-school connection, ensuring families are informed, involved, and empowered.
- Clear expectations, consistent
- Support: With structured interventions and a transparent ladder of sanctions, we want to ensure students know what’s expected and how we’ll help them get there.
We’re proud of the community we’re building, one where every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to succeed. The Behaviour for Learning Policy is more than a document; it’s a promise to uphold the standards that make Wilmington Grammar School for Girls as a place of excellence.
We will be sharing the policy with you over the course of this term and look forward to your ongoing support.

Introducing Teacher of English Miss Anderson. “We are delighted to welcome Miss Anderson to our English department. In the featured lesson with Year 7, she brought Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream to life, guiding students through Helena’s lovesick behaviour with energy and insight. The classroom buzzed with discussion as students mapped out their ideas, deepening their understanding of the play’s themes and twists. Miss Anderson’s passion for literature and her creative approach promise to make English lessons both inspiring and unforgettable.” Miss Selby, Head of English

Year 9 Scientists have been deepening their understanding of Osmosis during this practical lesson. Miss Mbu’s students investigated the effect of different concentrations of salt on the mass of potato to demonstrate the principles of osmosis, plotting their findings and calculating the mean percentage change in their samples.

Our A Level PE students are currently learning about the respiratory system. Our introductory engagement task was “Blow Football”, where they had to manipulate their breath to beat their opponent. It was very entertaining to watch!

Our Year 10 PE GCSE students are currently learning about Guidance. They were tasked with teaching each other Origami as their introductory engagement task, to highlight the importance of communication being clear and specific when giving guidance, especially to beginners.

Year 10 students competed in a Netball fixture against DSTC on 13th November. The students played fantastically! Once their nerves settled down after the first quarter, we saw some lovely interceptions where the students consistently backed one another. Very well done to all to you.
Score: 8-14 to DSTC
Player of the Match as chosen by DSTC: Elia V
Coaches Player: Jasmine C (movement down the court supporting players) and Lil M (playing outside her comfort zone, being exactly where she needed to be to support her teammates).
