Blog week ending 2nd July
It’s A Knockout! Students (and some staff!) enjoyed a high-octane day of fun, tackling 
every inflatable obstacle with fearless enthusiasm and plenty of laughter. From climbing and scrambling to sliding, bouncing and the occasional dramatic wipeout, the energy on the field was unstoppable over the two days.
Staff were on hand throughout to cheer everyone on and keep the momentum high, as each team battled it out in a whirlwind of colour, teamwork and friendly rivalry.
The motivation, teamwork, and tenacity of all the students that took part really showed our REACH values as a school. We have also raised a significant amount for a charity that will be chosen by Mrs Mead’s family. Stay tuned for the amount – thank you to all the parents, carers and students that supported the event.
Winning groups will be announced in their rewards assemblies.
The Year 10 GCSE Geography cohort visited Tankerton for the first instalment of their GCSE field work studying the effectiveness of beach management and impact of longshore drift at Tankerton seafront. They worked in teams to collate their data which will be utilised in class to complete their field investigation back at school. In the afternoon the group went to Reculver to observe a different location comparing managed vs unmanaged and discussed the reasons for this. They also observed some beautiful cliff landforms and saw geomorphic processes described from the classroom in reality.
The students were fantastic to spend the day with and did WGSG proud.
Our Year 10 Mandarin students attended the final stage of the MEP Tourism Project at the University of Kent. They took part in a range of engaging workshops on world literature, as well as a fascinating lecture on linguistics and culture, especially the great work from Lu Xun. The students found these activities both interesting and beneficial, broadening their understanding of different aspects of language and culture and opening their eyes to new perspectives. The day concluded with the screening of the shortlisted tourism videos created by students from our school, DGS, and Ratton School. Students then had the opportunity to vote for their favourite entries. And our students were voted winners once again! They received awards for both Most Creative Video and Overall Best Video. Special congratulations to Santy, Jayah and Yaiza! What a fantastic achievement! Congratulations to all involved – well done! We are incredibly proud of all our students. While not every team was shortlisted, every submission showed great effort, creativity, and talent. All of our students were amazing and should be very proud of their work.
Legally Blonde. I, and every other member of the audience were blown away by the stella performance, staging, musical skill and sheer joy of the evening! Congratulations to all involved Miss Cullingham (and us all) are extremely proud to stage such a West End worthy show!
Music Showcase on Thursday 2nd July (that’s tonight!!) at 6pm in the main hall. Students from all year groups will be showcasing their performance skills in bands, choirs and as soloists. The below photos were taken at rehearsals and are only a snapshot of the programme … our spine-tingling Gospel Choir, drummers, the electrifying WG6 band and way more besides. The Year 13 Prom was a most fitting celebration of, and for, our sensational Year 13 students. Chic glamour was in abundance as staff and ex-students enjoyed a magical evening marking the start of their next-steps … and a long (well-earned) summer of relaxation! Please do stay in touch, we would love to hear of your new adventures and would be delighted to support in any way we are able!
We were delighted to welcome back former WGSG student and alumna Grace Cutler, who has returned to the school for a science placement as part of her university studies. Now in the second year of her Physics degree at Durham University, Grace has stepped straight into the rhythm of school life, working alongside our science staff and supporting students in their lessons.
Reflecting on her return, Grace said, “Walking back into the science labs feels slightly surreal! But I’m really enjoying getting involved in lessons and seeing how students approach topics I used to love, especially the practical experiments. It’s been great to contribute from a new perspective.”
Her enthusiasm, subject knowledge and first‑hand experience of WGSG are already proving invaluable, and we’re thrilled to have her back in the department.
Please join me in congratulating Abi S of 7E who has been awarded Players Player by her team Hayden Youth Lionesses U12s. This is Abi’s first season and indeed the first season for the team, yet they have won three of their Summer Tournaments .. where she also won player of the tournament! Despite playing in a defensive position Abi has scored once and had a massive 11 assists from left back! An immense achievement. PTA Update.
Thank you for everyone who supported the pre-loved uniform event this week. The PFA raised £780 towards buying items for the school.
We held a highly successful Year11 Prom. Thank you to all the helpers especially Hayley Handley the event planner supremo whose vision came to life!
