Blog week ending 23rd April
Our Culture Day event more than lived up to expectations … it was, without doubt, one of the most joyous and exciting days of the year. A true kaleidoscope of cultures, heritage and identity, the day celebrated everything that makes us unique, while reminding us how richly connected we are as a school community.
This year’s theme, ‘How Music Makes Us’, explored how music from around the world shapes identity, community and culture. Students (and staff!) fully embraced the spirit of the day, showcasing music and dance from across the globe. The Culture Day catwalk was a particular highlight, with students cheering one another on with infectious enthusiasm, stunning performances and some truly fabulous costumes. It was a powerful, joyful celebration of who we are …. and one our students absolutely love.

We recently took part in the Dartford Litter Pick, with students from Years 7 to 10 getting involved. Armed with pickers and bags, they enthusiastically cleared litter from the school site, Parsons Lane and across the Heath. It was fantastic to see our students taking pride in their local environment and playing a small part in making our corner of Dartford a cleaner, brighter place for everyone.

Our WG6 students travelled to Poland as part of the Lesson from Auschwitz Project, organised by the Holocaust Education Trust, alongside around 130 sixth form students from across Kent. The visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau gave students a powerful and sobering opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Holocaust beyond the classroom. They approached the experience with maturity, sensitivity and respect, reflecting thoughtfully on the lessons learned. We are proud of how our students represented the school and of the important values this experience helps to reinforce.

Sophie of 9D is a member of the 8th Dartford Scouts Group .. and is an active member supporting organisations and charities both locally and further afield. Sophie has written us the below report;
“I was selected to go to the world scout jamboree by attending a tough selection process. We had a selection camp during storm Amy and had to face things such as heavy rain and wind. I am one of six people from Dartford chosen to represent our district and the UK.
A world scout jamboree is a large youth educational event held once every four years. In the summer of 2027 over 50,000 scouts from 160 countries are expected to go under the theme “bravely”. It is an amazing opportunity for cultural exchange as I will be living in a sub camp sharing my experience with scouts from completely different backgrounds.
I now have the task of raising around £3580 to go. Some of this helps the poorer countries to be able to share this event with us. To raise this my district scouts and I have been fundraising by helping at district events, hosting discos and quiz nights and participating in fairs.”
Please do look out for Sophie and her fellow Scouts (The Dartford Six!) if you are attending any local events to offer your support and if you are able, make a donations! To find our more, please click here https://www.dartfordscouts.org.uk/post-26th_world_scout_jamboree_participants_announced.html
