It has been a very busy summer in school, with a whole host of refurbishments and improvements to our school facilities. Classrooms have been redecorated, new water fountains installed in additional locations round the school as well as system and hardware updates across our Computer Science suites. Additionally, our new caterers have updated the kitchen to reflect the new and expanded food options on offer. The new menus have gone down extremely well with students and staff who are thoroughly enjoying all the new recipes, salad pots, fruit juice slushies and ‘grab and go’ options. Our Student Council will provide a full review of the new caterers at the end of the term and feed-back to me and my team. Miss Skrine, Head of Year 7 (pictured with students below) has created an induction programme to support our new students as they settle into school life. The programme includes a series of peer events, tours and lessons led by their Tutors, Student Managers and Teachers – Miss Skrine has been overseeing their progress. Miss Skrine added “it has been an absolute pleasure to spend time with our new Year 7s, who are already settling in so well; making friends, exploring their new school and engaging with their lessons”

In the below Science lesson Mrs Carwithen and her Year 7 students are evaluating the results of their recent practical lesson – observing cells using a microscope. Students have been familiarising themselves with our science labs’ apparatus and safety information before performing their first scientific investigation!

Introducing .. Ms Aggrey, Head of Chemistry who has a wealth of experience teaching Chemistry, planning truly engaging curriculum and leading departments in secondary settings. “I am incredibly passionate about Chemistry and hope to inspire all of our students to be as enthusiastic about their scientific studies as I will be in delivering the lessons!”

In Ms Aggrey’s Year 13 Chemistry A Level lesson (pictured) where students were challenged to expand their knowledge of Intermolecular forces and were able to identify the different types from weakest to strongest – excellent work!

Our new Year 12 students are based at WGSG for their study periods but dependent upon their subjects and timetables are likely to have lessons at both WGSG and WGSB. Both sites have dedicated study and common room spaces as well as a Sixth Form canteen area at WGSG. Mrs Develeski, Teacher of Sociology has been appointed Deputy Head of WG6 and Head of Year 12 and is delivering part of the WG6 induction programme to support students as they settle into their A level studies. Mrs Develeski added “Much of my career has been focused on crafting and delivering A Level courses and I am committed to preparing our students for higher education and careers in the ever-changing world around them.”

We foster a culture that celebrates, and is inspired by, all of our shared and personal achievements, whether school based academic ones or through clubs and activities undertaken out of school, so please do make us aware of any key events so that we can share them in our school blogs.
