Blog week ending 9th March
The MEP students from Dartford Grammar School, Wilmington Grammar School for Girls and Mayfield Grammar school for girls had a fantastic day of exciting activities to enjoy on the 26th February 2018.
After meeting our partners in the DGS canteen and being split into groups of three, all from the different schools, we listened to the opening ceremony given by John Oakes and Melissa Carr, and then went straight into the day’s activities.
Each small group of three got to make Chinese dumplings in the food technology room, coached by the DGS Chinese staff, and then to take part in a treasure hunt activity finding passages of Mandarin and English text and translating them in a helter-skelter race all across the site. Then we heard Transition, a famous band who made their name in Taiwan talk about their lives as well as helping students to compose a short song. Finally we tried our hand at the cultural art form of Zhong Guo Jie, or Chinese knots.
To cap off the day, Transition gave a rock concert in the Mick Jagger Centre. Year 8 WGSG students of Mandarin were also invited to attend this day. Our thanks to Dartford Grammar School for being such an excellent hosting school, and also to the Mandarin Excellence Programme’s support for the day, which helped to make it possible.
